Ian MeintjesIan was born and raised in Reno, Nevada and has spent his entire life enjoying the outdoors. He began snowboarding before he was even allowed on the chair lift at the age of 4. After 13 years of snowboarding, he felt it was time for a new challenge. He decided to learn to ski at the age of 17 and picked it up very quickly. He attributes this to watching and listening to his parents try to perfect their form throughout the years.

His home mountain is Mount Rose Ski Tahoe which was a mere 10 minute drive from his parents house growing up. Being so close to Lake Tahoe, there are so many choices such as Squaw Valley, Heavenly, and Kirkwood, but there’s nothing like getting on the lift at your home mountain.

Ian is a Senior at the University of Nevada Reno studying Biology and hoping to minor in Mechanical Engineering. Using that degree, he wants to purse a career in Bio-Technology.

Ian grew up racing mountain bikes and was able to race professionally for KTM Bike Industries for two years. He enjoys using cycling to stay in shape during the summer so he can hit the skin track with descent fitness when winter arrives.

He is extremely passionate about skiing, education, safety, gear, adventure, exercise, and searching for the best turns there are in the backcountry. He says, “nothing compares to how peaceful and beautiful it is in the middle of the forest while breaking trail towards the summit where there is untracked powder waiting to be skied.”
